Low blood pressure may be physiological and unassociated with symptoms of ill health. It is generally due to failure of blood pressure regulating mechanism. On the other hand abnormal blood pressure may be due to myocardial infarction or reduction in cardiac output due to sluggish circulation. Patient has temporary symptom of fainting or loss of consciousness. When these symptoms persist, patient complaints of insomnia , headache and giddiness. When the blood pressure drops suddenly the brain is deprived of adequate blood supply. The hypotension includes dizziness, light headedness, unsteadiness, dimming or blurring of vision, weakness, fatigue, cognitive impairment and nausea. If the hypotension particularly appears in elderly, it may increase the risk of falls leading to bone fractures and other injuries.
