Epistaxis (bleeding from nose) is a common complaint presenting an emergency. Epistaxis is often a frightening sight to the patient and the attendants especially if the patient is child. Epistaxis may be due to the local infection, general and other causes. Finger nail trauma due to the excessive nose picking, trauma to nose due to any accident or hit on the nose or fracture of the nasal bone. Epistaxis may be due to acute sinusitis, viral rhinitis. Epistaxis may be due to foreign body in the nose, deviation of the nasal septum, atmospheric changes, growth in the nasal cavity. In general epistaxis is seen in the patients of hypertension, pregnant women and patients using excessive analgesics.
