GALL BLADDER DISEASE

The American Liver Foundation reports that more than 25 million people are afflicted with liver and gallbladder disease each year.

Gall bladder problems can cause symptoms that include:  Nausea and vomiting, indigestion, intolerance to fatty foods, abdominal bloating, pain in the upper and central upper abdomen, referred pain may radiate to the back and right shoulder.

If the gall bladder or large bile ducts become infected or obstructed with sludge or gall stones, very severe acute symptoms may supervene and these include :  Severe abdominal pains which may radiate into the back and the right shoulder, vomiting and diarrhea, fever, septicemia (infection extends beyond the gall bladder into the blood stream), inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).

Typically, surgery to remove the gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) is the most common way to treat symptomatic gallstones. (Asymptomatic gallstones usually do not need treatment.)  Nonsurgical approaches are used only in special situations such as when a patient's condition prevents using an anesthetic and only for cholesterol stones.  Nonsurgical approaches include:

• Oral dissolution therapy. Drugs made from bile acid are used to dissolve the stones. The drugs, ursodiol (Actigall) and chenodiol (Chenix), work best for small cholesterol stones.
• Contact dissolution therapy. This procedure is being tested in patients with symptomatic, noncalcified cholesterol stones. It involves injecting a drug (methyl tert butyl ) directly into the gallbladder to dissolve stones.
• Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). This treatment uses shock waves to break up stones into tiny pieces that can pass through the bile ducts without causing blockages.

LIVER DISEASE

Liver disease (aka liver cirrhosis) is a term for a collection of conditions, diseases, and infections that affect the cells, tissues, structures, or functions of the liver.

Symptoms of liver disease partly depend on the type and the extent of liver disease. In many cases, there may be no symptoms. Signs and symptoms that are common to a number of different types of liver disease include: nausea, malaise (or a vague feeling of illness), vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, generalized itching, a yellow coloring of the skin or the eyes (jaundice), pain in the right upper part of the belly and dark urine. The best way to determine whether your liver has been compromised is with some simple blood tests.

 Treatment depends on the type and stage of the disease. BM 3 is a proven mixture of homeopathic medicine which will help to support your body in this situation, and can be taken without concern of interfering with other treatments.

The aim of the following conventional treatments is to stop the progress of the cirrhosis, reversing (to whatever extent possible) the damage that has already occurred, and treating complications that are disabling or life-threatening. Stopping or reversing the process requires removal of the cause, as in the following cases:

In alcoholic cirrhosis: avoiding alcohol and eating a wholesome diet.

In cirrhosis caused by viral hepatitis:  use of experimental approaches that include the use of drugs to improve immune responses to viral infection (interferon) or to help destroy the virus (anti-viral compounds).

In certain types of cirrhosis caused by chronic hepatitis: corticosteroids are indicated.

In cirrhotic patients with jaundice: use of supplemental fat soluble vitamins may be helpful.

In Wilson's disease: removal of excessive copper.

In hemochromatosis: removal of excess iron.  

For patients with severe cirrhosis, a liver transplant may be life-saving.
